About Me

My name is Kevin Torres. I’m an Emmy Award winning Backpack Journalist at K*USA-TV/9NEWS in Denver, CO. What’s a Backpack Journalist? Well, it’s a reporter who shoots and edits his or her own stories.
I studied photography and journalism in college, so this position fits me well. In fact, I’ve been a Backpack Journalist since my first TV job. I was hired at a tiny TV station in Watertown, NY in 2004. The station was situated 30 minutes south of the Canadian Border in New York’s North Country.
After Watertown, I moved an hour south to Syracuse, NY where I worked for the ABC station as a Backpack Journalist for three years. I moved to Denver in August, 2009 and fell in love with Colorado and K*USA immediately.
Colorado is an amazing state with so many exciting places to visit. Fortunately I get to visit a lot of those places for work. I’m going to use this blog as a tool to bring you along with me.
